Chuan Body + Soul Introduces New TCM Treatments
Try Acupuncture, Ho Guan, and Herbal Medicine at the only hotel spa in Boston

BOSTON – July 17, 2009 – Since the grand opening just over one year ago, Chuan Body + Soul has been providing guests with spa services, such as the Signature massages and facials, using the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). The Chuan experience includes element balancing, breathing rituals, and acupressure. We are pleased to announce that we are the first hotel spa in Boston to add Acupuncture, Ho Guan (Cupping), and Herbal Medicine to our menu of treatments.

As part of these new services, a Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner will complete an evaluation on each guest, and based upon that analysis, will receive a prescription. A prescription may include massage using elemental oil therapy and acupressure, acupuncture, herbal medicine, or cupping.

ACUPUNCTURE

Acupuncture is a form of TCM that has been practiced for thousands of years to promote healing and well-being. According to TCM philosophy, our health depends upon the body’s circulating energy (Qi) through a network of meridians (channels) and collaterals beneath the skin. By inserting fine needles into these channels of energy, it can stimulate the body’s own healing response and help restore its natural balance.

HO GUAN (Cupping)

Ho Guan (Cupping) is an ancient Chinese practice in which a heated cup is applied to the skin and the pressure inside this cup has a therapeutic effect on the skin and muscle layer just below the skin. Cupping is applied to certain acupressure points, as well as regions of the body that are affected by pain. It restores energy balance using heat in a cup to create suction on the skin. Temporary marks may be left on the skin from this therapeutic treatment.

HERBAL MEDICINE

The TCM practitioner may also write a prescription for herbal medicine, usually herbs for tea to accompany the treatments.

"Traditional Chinese Medicine is the basis for our signature treatments at Chuan Body + Soul. There are many therapeutic benefits in addition to relaxation," said, Maria Shea, Director of Chuan Body + Soul. "We are following in the steps of our Chuan Spas around the world by adding acupuncture, cupping, and herbal medicine to our list of spa treatments."

The cost is $80 for 60-minutes, which includes assessment, prescription, and treatment from a licensed Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner.

Chuan Body + Soul focuses on creating a relaxing spa atmosphere as well as balancing the elements, whose harmony is essential for physical and emotional well-being. Chuan Body + Soul encompasses two fitness floors with modern spa treatment rooms, elegant locker rooms, indoor lap pool, whirlpool, saunas, and TechnoGym fitness equipment. Staying true to its Oriental philosophy, it is designed with a Chinese architectural style.

Chuan offers massages, facials, scrubs, wraps, and waxing in addition to the new TCM treatments. For appointments and information, please call 617.451.1900, extension 7013.
